Mojacko on Cartoon Network Asia
Today I've watched Mojacko. The anime based on the Mojacko manga by Fujiko F. Fujio, the same man who had made Doraemon, Perman and many others (you can find more about these in my posts in my blog). Mojacko has been aired on TV1 in 2002 in Malay dubbing and has recently aired again on Cartoon Network Asia on Astro Ch 616. I found this programme on Astro's EPG last week (according to Parenthots from The Star, Mojacko started airing on the channel on February 24).
On Cartoon Network Asia, it is dubbed in English (main broadcast language), Malay and Chinese. It airs every Saturday at 9:00 am (there are no repeat broadcasts unlike other programmes such as Gumball and Adventure Time). As at the time this post was written, this is the second Fujiko anime to be aired on a pay-TV channel and dubbed in English after Chimpui which is airing on Disney Channel Asia right now. This is so far the seventh Fujiko anime to be aired in Malaysia.
The opening and ending titles of Mojacko has been slightly shortened. It is aired as two episodes back-to-back (as I guessed that the original Mojacko broadcast is aired with just one episode under 30 minutes' duration like how Kiteretsu did), and the eyecatcher (Japanese term for break bumper) is removed although it can be seen in a split-second. The preview for next episode is also included at the end of each broadcast.
The characters in Mojacko are Mojacko, a robot who assists Mojacko, Sorao and Miki. The anime also has some relations with 21-emon, also by Fujiko F. Fujio (as far as I know 21-emon has yet to be broadcast in Malaysia). Gonsuke, a character from 21-emon interacts with Mojacko from a monitor in Mojacko's spaceship, while Mojacko's features is a bit similar to that of 21-emon's friend.

This week's media news (episode 10)
Welcome to this week's media news. The 13th General Election is in two weeks time.
Today during the start of Al-Kuliyyah on TV3 I saw a variation of TV3's on-screen top-right logo, not the main on-screen logo from TV3's idents and promos used as an another logo during certain occasions. The colour of the logo is more deeper and has slight graphic difference. This is how it looks like.
On the GE 13 matter, TV3's Buletin Utama and Nightline has also temporarily moved to the near-the-newsroom studio this week. Studio A has been reserved for the live coverage of the GE13. The picture below is the preview of how the graphics for TV3's GE 13 coverage look like, as appeared in a promo two weeks ago.
The list of TV stations' slogans for the upcoming GE 13 election has been updated with a follow-up blog. Click here.
TM's Hypp TV has won the Best Live TV Service or Solution at the 2013 TV Connect Industry Awards, so Hypp TV decided to make all its channels free-to-view from April 18 to 24. Hypp TV has also changed its interface design which is done in phases for three weeks.
NEW 21/4/2013 (Revised 26/4/2013): Astro Supersports will have two new channels and have its existing channels repositioned on April 23, to allow more sports coverage. The two new channels are Astro Supersport 4 and Astro Supersport HD 3. As for the record before the Astro Supersport's channel repositioning, this is the current Astro Supersport's channel positions until the change:
811 Astro Supersport
816 Astro Supersport 2
817 Astro Supersport 3
831 Astro Supersport HD
832 Astro Supersport HD 2

This week's media news (episode 9 - GE13 special!)
Welcome to this week's media news. The 13th General Election fever has just started, so this episode will be fully occupied by just GE13-related matters.
On April 10, the Election Commission has announced the dates for the "penamaan calon" and the polling date. The "penamaan calon" will be on April 20 and the polling date is on May 5. The campaigning period will be 15 days long. Therefore, as a broadcasting fan myself, I would most likely anticipate on political advertisements and party manifestos that will appear during the campaigning period. And just before the launch of BN's Manifesto last week, BN's Selangorku Sayang political song commercial has been aired on TV3.
I've also made a small supplement which is a list of TV and radio stations' slogans and websites for the upcoming GE 13. Click here.

Scheduling of JAKIM's special programmes on TV1
During different occasions of the year, the 6:30 pm time slot which is usually reserved for programmes produced by JAKIM (the Islamic department under the Prime Minister's Department which is responsible for Islamic affairs in Malaysia since the official religion of Malaysia is Islam; JAKIM's programmes also air on other RTM TV and radio stations) and some normal programming in the evening two months before Ramadan would be interrupted for special programmes. This is normal all year round.
The first time I realise this was recently when I was surfing some programmes on TV1. I saw the National Hafazan Al-Quran Competition being aired instead of the normal JAKIM programming. Later I had the idea of making this.
On the night of Awal Muharram will be the special prayers for the new year of the Islamic calendar. On Awal Muharram it will be the Maal Hijrah celebration. Then on 12 Rabiulawal will be the Birthday of Prophet Muhammad, so it will be the Birthday of Prophen Muhammad celebrations in the morning, starting with a parade along with some selawat to the Prophet. After the period, there will be no special programmes.
About 3 months before Ramadan, TV1 airs the National Hafazan Al-Quran Competition that was held about many weeks before the actual airing on the channel. A month later will be the National Tilawah Al-Quran Competition. And on the month before Ramadan will be the International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition. The latter two are broadcast live in the evening, so I think this does not affect the usual 6:30 pm schedule where the normal JAKIM programming returns.
When Ramadan comes, there would be a lot of Ramadan-related programming, other TV station also do that. A lot of programmes, not just Syahadah and the live Tawarikh prayers from Makkah which is also carried by TV9, TV Alhijrah and Astro Oasis. Same goes to Aidilfitri, not just the Aidilfitri prayers.
Just after Aidilfitri, the 6:30 pm slot will be occupied again by Haj-related programme called Seruan Haji. When the year-end school holiday comes, Adik-Adikku, a children's talent reality programme will air. And the cycle goes on.
I've wrote a lot about JAKIM's special programmes airing on TV1 today.

Before the GE 13
This post is a supplement of the recent This week's media news episode.
About the upcoming 13th General Election, the Parliament has been dissolved on April 3 at 11:30 am. On April 10, the Election Commission will decide on the nomination and the polling date in a live news conference. This general election will cover Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah. Sarawak already has its state election in 2011. The first party manifesto was from Barisan Nasional with the launch of its manifesto at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur last night, which was broadcast on TV. (Details here). The Pakatan Rakyat has declined the opportunity to air its party manifesto. I'm not sure about parties other than Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat.

TV broadcasts of BN Manifesto launch
The Barisan Nasional manifesto was launched last night at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. The manifesto's TV broadcast was produced by TV3 using HDTV cameras, like how TV3 did during its recent live events such as Anugerah Skrin 2012, the recent Anugerah Juara Lagu and Bella Awards on NTV7. The event was broadcast in 16:9 letterbox upconverted from HDTV. On TV3, Izwan Azir Salleh is reporting from the event. This is the list of TV stations airing the launch of BN Manifesto and the TV stations' relay method in brackets as confirmed by myself:
- TV3 (originating broadcaster)
- NTV7 (clean feed from TV3)
- TV1 (clean feed from TV3)
- TV Alhijrah (off-air relay from TV1)
- Astro Awani (clean feed from TV3)

This week's media news (episode 9)
Welcome to this week's media news. This week is so exciting because of RTM's 67th anniversary and the upcoming first party manifesto on TV.
RTM celebrates its 67th anniversary on April 1. A news report from ABU says RTM's anniversary ceremony was held at Angkasapuri on that day. Director-General of RTM Dato' Norhayati Ismail says RTM's current focus is on the use of new technology and social media. RTM may soon announce the launch a surprise new product. She also presented certificates of appreciation to its 41 RTM staff members who were involved in the coverage of the Sulu terrorist intrusion in Lahad Datu (Lahad Datu standoff).
RTM also introduced its online rolling news channel called 1 News. It can be accessed at http://1news.rtm.gov.my. It is streamed in high-quality 16:9 aspect ratio. I saw this during a news report aired on Berita Nasional before the sports segment on March 31.
This is how RTM's 67th anniversary logo looks like. The number "67" in the logo is similar to the number "0" in the 50th anniversary of Singapore TV's logo used by MediaCorp last February.
Moving on to TV3. Today I found out that Berita Terkini's 7:30 am weekdays edition is still at Studio A Sri Pentas (and also Buletin Pagi as confirmed on April 7) unlike the other bulletins that I mentioned in the last episode where they are at the near-the-newsroom set. I confirmed this when I checked today's recorded MHI broadcast on Tonton website (the newscast is included in the broadcast). I also watched a promo about TV3's GE13 election broadcast on April 6 where TV3 will be using the latest technology to present information about the GE13. The GE13 live coverage on the night of polling day will be broadcast from Studio A. Meanwhile TV3's top-right logo variation which is also used for idents and promos is also spotted twice on April 5 during Berita Terkini 7:30 am and during the live broadcast of Al-Kuliyyah from Cyberjaya. I'm not sure whether the logo variation will replace the existing one.
[Content about GE13 has been removed because I thought that the BN Manifesto on April 6 was a 10-minute broadcast but it's actually the launch of BN's Manifesto at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil. Detais of the broadcast of the launch of BN Manifesto here and before the GE13 here]
