Welcome to this week's media news for the week between September 23 and 29.
RTM
On September 23, I started to realise that TV2 has changed its programme name back to top-left again, instead of below the logo at the top-right. I think it was because TV2 wants to occupy the top-left side for the Hari Merdeka and Hari Malaysia animated logos.
There is a public service announcement seen on TV2 which is about discrimination of disabled people in English subtitles. It is produced by PCSOFT, a local production company, based on my check on the PSA on September 25.
Media Prima
On September 23, TV3's Buletin Utama began airing a countdown to the start of Visit Malaysia Year 2014 starting at 100 days left. The graphic is located at the top-left.
TV9 has started airing the Home Shopping Japan programme since September 22. It airs every Sunday at 12:00 am. There have been a few news reports about the launch of Home Shopping Japan some weeks before the debut, mentioning Tri-Stage Inc, Zenith Media and Home Shopping Japan Sdn Bhd. This is the first time a Japanese-styled home shopping programme being aired in Malaysia and also the first time a home shopping programme being aired on TV9 under Media Prima since 2006.
Here are two videos of Home Shopping Japan recorded by my brother Hafiz:
Planet Kiara has been re-running again on TV3 as of last check on September 24. It's a re-run of Season 2 which airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30 pm. The Thursday slot was previously for Detective Conan Live Action Series first aired in Japan in 2010.
Astro
New channel A-list will start airing on Astro ch 456 in HDTV starting 1 October. It offers eight critically-acclaimed movie titles a month and is priced at RM 15 per month, according to Business Times website. Here is a screenshot of A-list before its launch.
Hypp TV
Around this week, I saw the Parlimen Malaysia channel started airing on Hypp TV. This is the first time I saw a true Parliamentary channel in Malaysia much like BBC Parliament in the UK. The Parlimen Malaysia channel carries the Parliamentary sitting sessions courtesy of RTM where it also air the Parliamentary broadcasts on TV1 in form of highlights and shortened broadcasts. The Parliamentary sitting sessions which air on the Parlimen Malaysia channel are unedited and in full up until the end of the Parliament sitting session. The Parliamentary sitting sessions are done every Monday to Thursday in the morning and in the afternoon. Parlimen Malaysia also carry a simulcast of Fokus Hari Ini courtesy of The Capital TV at 8:00 pm daily. When the programmes are not airing, the slide below is shown.
Others
On September 26, I spotted Bernama TV airing news updates which supplement the regular news bulletins under the name "Bilik Berita Bernama" which airs on weekdays every hour between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm and 4:00 and 5:00 pm. I think it started this week or maybe slightly earlier.
