This week's latest media news

This is a compilation of the latest media news that happened around South East Asia, compiled by myself.

On January 21 in Singapore, Channel NewsAsia gets a new look with the slogan "Understand Asia" and begins 24-hour broadcasting. It is now broadcasting from Marina Bay Studio instead of the previous Caldecott Broadcast Centre. Its existing newscasts have been changed to News Now. News Pulse will air during midnight hours. Also on January 21, KBS World's HD feed (Astro ch 392) repositioned its top-right logo located inside the 4:3 aspect ratio to slightly near the 14:9 limit. The SD feed of the channel (seen on Astro ch 391) switched its aspect ratio to 16:9 letterbox instead of being 4:3 cropped but on the next day later changed to 14:9 aspect ratio. This will be Astro's second channel to be broadcast in 14:9 aspect ratio after Cartoon Network Asia (Astro ch 616). KBS World's HD feed has previously aired its "HD" logo located outside the 4:3 screen between September 3 and December 30 last year. KBS World's logo position is most probably in sync with the Korean terrestrial TV channels.

On January 28, ESPN (Astro ch 812) will change its name to FOX Sports. ESPN HD (Astro ch 832) will also change to FOX Sports Plus. The branding will be similar to FOX Football Channel on Hypp TV.
